Port Adelaide skipper Connor Rozee’s season over after hamstring injury ‘complication’

Port Adelaide captain Connor Rozee will miss the rest of the AFL season amid ongoing hamstring problems.

Rozee has been sidelined since tearing the tendon in his left hamstring in a March 22 game.

The Power skipper had hoped to return to action but is suffering continuing nerve issues related to the injury.

Port’s fitness boss Tim O’Leary says Rozee’s recovery has “plateaued” in recent weeks.

The 26-year-old won’t have further surgery at this stage, but had an injection on Tuesday in a bid to break down scar tissue around the troublesome nerve.

“After seeking multiple specialist opinions, we decided on a non-surgical approach at this stage for Connor,” O’Leary said in a statement on Wednesday.

“The hamstring repair has healed really well.

“However the complication with the initial nerve injury has made it increasingly difficult for Connor’s rehab to progress further.”

O’Leary was optimistic the injection would help get the dynamic playmaker’s rehabilitation back on track in time for the start of the next pre-season in October/November.

“We are incredibly disappointed for Connor and know how much he wishes he could be out on the field with his teammates again this year,” he said.

“But we know he will keep attacking his rehab with the same relentless intensity that he has from day one, and will continue to be the same outstanding leader within the club during his time in rehab.”
