Driver allegedly rams car in Gold Coast Guzman y Gomez drive‑thru meltdown

A late‑night run for fish tacos has turned into a bizarre drive‑thru blow‑up, with a man allegedly ramming another car repeatedly at a Guzman y Gomez outlet on Saturday night.

The chaos unfolded about 9.45pm at the Robina restaurant on the Gold Coast, where witnesses say the driver “reached boiling point” over a 15‑minute wait for his order.

What followed was a Mexican stand‑off that ended with two cars written off.

“There was lots of engine revving — like really, really loud,” one witness said.

Saavanah and Quinn were a few cars ahead in the queue.

“He’s like ramming the car, trying to get out, then you see teenagers at the back of the line yelling ‘he’s got a screwdriver’,” the pair told 7NEWS.

Another customer, Ben Zoffman, said panic spread quickly.

“All the cars were reversing out of the drive‑thru — probably nine or 10 cars.”

Police say the man threatened people before abandoning his vehicle and fleeing the scene, leaving behind a damage bill in the tens of thousands.

Staff returned to business as usual on Sunday, but it’s unlikely the angry customer will be welcomed back.

“Who’s getting fish tacos at 10pm? That kinda shows what guy we’re working with here,” one witness said.

Saavanah and Quinn agreed.

“There’s a list of things I would do prior to destroying my car… maybe like wait patiently,” they said.

Police are now searching for the driver, who left without collecting his tacos.
